My Dad was a whangai child and his real mum was deaf and dumb (Dorothy) but i hear she wasnt that dumb and her mum was Ani, Because of my dad ( David Tanenui snr) our whanau are Maniapoto from kaputuhi Marae but we sort of grew up in Auckland but always headed to the far north of Mitimiti where my mum is from and taken that as our Rohe but that has changed.

I would love to know more about our whanau, and to know what happening with land issues and no doubt will definitely venture into finding all this out.

Kia ora Whanau

Unfortunately I don't know much about my Maori heritage. My fathers name is Rudy Pateriki Naik, born in Te Kuiti on the 7th Feb 1935. He is one of five siblings. My father and all his brothers and one sister have all passed on now, which makes it even harder to find out about family connections. They are buried at the family marae in Te Kuiti on the hill, so beautiful. I am named after my great grandmother Parehine and my great grandfathers surname is Barton. Would like more info about my family if anyone has information please.

My ancestral mothers of Ngati Maniapoto guide my every move in life and I live to right the wrong of what happened to their lands: at issue are the actions of not only the Crown but as well the actions of white settler men that they married birthed children to and who at the end of the day were left landless. Whose settler names live on in books and seek audience on our marae as mentioned in whakapapa both oral and written. I believe at the cost of the ancestral mothers who hold mana whenua. I am a political radical activist, lesbian, feminist, writer and poet. I am proudly Ngati Maniapoto within the hapu of Ngati Rora, Ngawaeroa and the many other affiliate hapu of these beautiful women: Rangituatahi (Hetet), Hariata Paeroa (Searancke/HerangiWanakore), Rangihurihia Pianika (Ormsby), Ripekatangi (Turner), Rangitakena (Hetet), Maria Hoponi Komanga (Hughes) It is their right of sovereignty, their freedom to their lands, I stand in remembrance to. As well that of my/our tupuna, paramo...
